Label Style Display

I am having a slight problem with point and their styles.  We have point groups set up to recognize different points shot in the field (telephone/power poles, iron pins, etc.)  These groups assign blocks for the point style.

We have it set that these point styles are to come in on layer C-X-TOPO, and the point labels are to come in on layer C-X-POINT.

I would like the ability to turn off the point labels (elevaitons, etc.) independently of the block by using just layers, and not have to go to the prospector tab and turn off the individual point groups.  I am sure there is an override toggle I am missing!

See attached sheet for what I call the styles and labels.

Thanks in advance.

First of all you should use description keys to assign the symbols-not point groups. They will even push the symbol/block to a specific layer (i.e.... C-Topo or whatever you set it as). This will override whatever is in the point group for the point style. This will also allow you to generalize point groups somewhat so that you have say a point group for utilities, and not a group for every type of utility.

Note this will only work with new points not existing points so if you have points in a drawing and create keys - the keys only work on newly created points. If you want them to work on all the points then you must re-import the points.

If you are in Civil 3D 2010 or 2011, you do not have to re-import your points when modifying or customizing your description keys. Simply right click on _All Points within your point group list and choose "Apply Decription Keys".

And I agree with Rick, description keys are the way to do what you are attempting to do. Point groups were never intended to provide this method of control (even though you can do it).
