Label Style Composer text content

I have noticed something weird in our civil master template.  When adding mtext content for a surface slope label and accepting the text edit, I get what's shown in the screen shot below.  The text style being used is set to Calibri.  To test things, I started with the out of the box acad.dwt template, created a new font set to Calibri and created a new surface slope style, added mtext content to the label and it returns the same thing.  Using the standard font style (default to arial) in the same acad.dwt template, I can make mtext edits without the extra "content."  Not sure if this really impacts anything, but just kind of annoying.  Thoughts?

Out of curiosity are you copy & pasting some additional content that may have come from the old style into your label style. This could be causing the old style to come along for the ride. I've had similar incidents with Arial doing that even though may text style is set to Arial.

You might also go to the format tab, and you should be able to select all the text and get all the stuff set back to how you want it to look.

I just noticed this today, we have recently updated our styles and labels to use the TrueType Arial fonts.  I am also getting the normally-hidden control characters in the textbox when I update a label. 

They appear to be harmless, and go away the next time I edit that style.

This is normal behavior when you overwrite the text style to use a different font in the label style.

C3D 2017, 2018 and 2019 all shows the same.

Thanks for the information.  I tested things in the out of the box imperial template and I could change font styles in the style editor without the extra content.  In the acad.dwt template you would get the extra characters.  Since we started with the stripped down acad.dwt template (layer zero and standard styles) for our own template, I am guessing that's why I see that behavior in our template.  Interestingly enough, the only real difference I could see is that the imperial template uses simplex.shx for the default standard text style while the acad template uses arial as font for the standard text style.  Probably something more involved than that, but kind of weird.  I am sure its a harmless issue, but just weird when editing styles.

Thanks.  Ours doesn't go away with multiple edits.  If I change back to the standard text style, delete the label content and re-create, the extra characters go away.

I'm getting this same situation happening in some brand new template files in 2021 I'm trying to set up.  It seems to somehow be related to the font chosen for a given text style.  Some will inject themselves into the text component editor and some won't.  You don't even need to make any edits in the editor, just open it and select OK. Once they're in there you can't get them out unless you delete the contents and add it back in. 

SHX fonts don't produce this problem, only some truetype fonts do. 

As much fun as it would be to do a plan in a 'Chiller' font, I don't think management would see the humor.

Can anyone else reproduce this?

I haven't really given it much thought since the original post was made.  I opened a 2022 drawing and clicked into a pipe profile label style contents and it added the characters in.  As you mention, it doesn't appear to do it with all truetype fonts, but it hasn't really seemed to cause issues so I just ignore it.  We initially switched to truetype fonts to match our revit users in our company.

Thank you for responding and confirming that its not just me.   Its kind of a shame that it happens.  I tested on my machine at home and it does that same thing.  I guess its not really and issue until someone wants to change the font the company uses, then you're screwed because its imbedded in every label style.

@MMcCall402 this has been around for quite a while (I honestly hate it), and I've found no way around it. I prefer TTF's and have totally abandon .shx fonts since LDD2K, back then I read an article in CADALYST, that said basically Autocad was moving away from .shx and would start using windows fonts, so I incorporated a script to read the LDD scale and started using Arial (most common with infant windows xp at the time). 20+years later, I'm still struggling with old shx fonts that don't exist, and users that still need romans (I hate this font type as well, along with HLV etc....) for some ungodly reason. I'll standby one thing, I made a decision 20 years ago to go to TTF, and I'm not turning back on that judgment, it prints clearer, what you see in cad is what you get on paper (pen weight/styles don't affect it), and I'm still waiting for that article to come true.................
