Isolating layers

I'm having trouble with isolating layers, when I try to isolate a certain layer all of the layers disappear, including the one I selected. when I switched from 2016 civil3D to 2017 is when I started having the problem. Is there a way for only the layer I isolate to be visible? thanks.

Isolate layers does not work correctly on Civil 3D objects because of the layer nesting. More accurately, it will turn off all of the layers, except the layer of the object itself.

For example, an alignment may be on layer C-ROAD, but the style of the alignment contains the layers C-ROAD-CNTR-N and C-ROAD-LINE-EXTN.

So what happens is that C-ROAD-CNTR-N and C-ROAD-LINE-EXTN get turned off and then you don't see anything. If you check, C-ROAD will be the layer isolated (in this case).

thanks for the reply, I'm not sure this is the solution. there is no possible way that my points are on any other layer than what is assigned to them. I have used the LAYISO command/settings/ lock and fade, but I don't want to fade the surrounding layers because they can still be selected. I want just the points and or layer that I isolate to be visible as described in my first post. I hope this makes sense, thanks.

The same applies for points.

For example: The object layer for your cogo points might be on V-NODE. But the contents of the point block might be on V-NODE-GRND and the layer used on the label style might be V-NODE-TEXT.

So if you isolate the point by picking it, you are isolating V-NODE,. which will still be on, but the point and its label will disappear since V-NODE-GRND and V-NODE-TEXT will be off.

So there is really no way to isolate all the Flowline  shots? I played around with changing the description key set to try and put them on a different layer without success. So am I pretty much out of luck?

Nine years later, but I have to chime in just to say this is my one biggest pet-peeve about AutoCAD.  For example:  Alignment is on C-ROAD, the label is visible on C-ROAD-ANN.

I do not think it unreasonable that if I pick an alignment dynamic label to isolate I should end up isolating C-ROAD and C-ROAD-ANN and see them both.

I know I can manipulate the set-up layers to be on any layer I wish, and I know styles can also help with this, but most people don't do this even if they do know and I often get drawing files started by others.  Ok, sorry, /rant over
