Infrastructure Parts Editor - Inventor Parts - Publish to Network Location

Well this could be long winded.

Steps -

Custom parts created with Inventor

Inventor Parts imported to IPE

Assemblies created in IPE

Publish catalog locally and to a network location with no errors.

All structures work correctly on my personal machine, using either the local catalog or the network catalog.

However, when other users try to create a pipe network using this catalog on the network it fails and the error reported is this.

The "failed to create structure with template....", these parts are stored on my local drive under the "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2021\enu\ContentLibrary\Templates" directory. These are also Inventor parts used in the Infrastructure Parts Editor.

Question - How do I share these files for others on the network to use?

My initial thought was that when the catalog is published from IPE that the "link" to these files was severed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm at my wits end.

I'm using C3D 2021.2, Windows 10.

Hi @LCFJ60 ,

This error appears when the template files are missing. You can publish the catalog to the local drive. You would have to share the catalog folder and template files for these particular parts too.

That is correct. And I am able to copy/share the contents of that folder. However, there should be an easier way to share these, when you have hundreds of users needing access it is a pain to have them all copy the contents to their local folder, especially when there are revisions to the parts or additional parts added, everyone has to do it again, leaving room for potential errors. Having a better way to share or to path other PC's to the correct folder location, that would be ideal.

If you place those files in a network location, a good IT should be able to automatically push those files out to any Civil 3D user on a schedule or triggered by an event (e.g. login).

Unfortunately I don't have that know-how.

Thank you, that is good information. I will talk with our IT department on how we can get that implemented. Unfortunately we have encountered other limitations that will postpone our deployment of using Infrastructure Parts Editor created parts. That issue being that data references will not synchronize/update correctly using IPE parts, they work properly in the source drawing. We have demonstrated this to Autodesk and they have acknowledged the error, I hope they are working to correct.
