Include additional lisp's for Object Data

Administrator: Please delete this post from here or move to Ideas.
I wanted to create such an idea, but not a post.

Include in all deliveries AutoCAD Map/Civil 3D additional lisp's created for Object Data (OD).

Previously, AutoCAD Map/Civil 3D shipments included two lisp'a for OD: copy_od.lsp - until 2013 (?) and XD2OD.lsp - quite a long time ago.

OD is a convenient and popular tool for storing descriptive data in Map/Civil 3D.
But for OD in regular delivery of AutoCAD Map/Civil 3D there aren't enough tools!

If Autodesk does not create its own sufficient OD tools, it could add already created custom tools - as it did before.

Users have created at least 26 useful lisp's for OD.
I collected these lisp's in forums, and saved them and the description of their work in "Additionally" in odclass-odedit.com.

If you still have the old lisp file, you can still use it. Is there an issue your having with the older lisp? (Usually if Adesk removes something its because the "built a better replacement".)

The purpose of this idea is to make more tools for Object Data available to users.
Let Autodesk of these 26 lisp's leave 15-20, but it does not need to create anything - only adding to "Sample" or the like.
(Alas, Autodesk stopped adding those lisp's, and gave no alternative).

I find this in my 2021 install.

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2021\Map\Sample\copy_od.lsp

But not XD2OD.lsp

If Object Data were not locked / limited to Map3D it would have more support.  All the other Autodesk CAD verticals, Revit, etc cannot read/write it from the .DWG.  I would be more supportive of PropertySet data, at least it's available on other verticals.

Plus all the Autodesk supplied tools haven't changed since conception, dialogs won't resize, etc.

1. Not quite so - Object Data can always be used in Civil 3D.
2. Object Data has existed for 20 years, when Autodesk added Property Sets to Civil 3D...
3. Property Sets are also limited in AutoCAD - Civil 3D, Architecture (from which they were taken), MEP.
Why have they not been made common to all AutoCAD?..
4. XData, Object Data, Xrecord, Property Sets - co-exist simultaneously for Map/Civil 3D. And none of these descriptive data storage tools have full tools...
Autodesk - "collector."😀
5. But why did Autodesk not give the ready converters for Object Data <> Property Sets?..

Didn't think I needed to state that well known fact.

Autodesk needs to roll ObjectData and the MPOLYGON object into the core of AutoCAD.  Then (and only then) will it receive large scale support.

Excuse me! I had to write this after "locked/limited to Map3D". Still, not everyone even knows about Object Data.

I am also for Object Data to be in all AutoCAD. Or even Property Sets. If only they were equipped with a sufficient set of tools to work...

If we return to the topic/Idea, then adding existing lisp's to ...\Sample... AutoCAD does not spoil anything in the AutoCAD, almost requires no effort from Autodesk, but can help users.

Autodesk will never include "existing lisp's" in the product.

  1. Way too much liability in the event that end users have problems and interpret them as being supplied by Autodesk.
  2. Autodesk is simply not adding significant improvements to Map3D.

1. There are examples where Autodesk includes lisp - the same copy_od.lsp, XD2OD.lsp.
There is also an example of Express tools.
2. Check the safety of lisp's easily and quickly. Especially Autodesk itself.
3. Of course, we do not make decisions. But our business is to offer ways and directions of development, improvement of Map 3D and AutoCAD.
And I would only welcome if your solutions from Civil3D Tools, from Tool Pack or the like were added to the AutoCAD.
