Import xml problems

Hello.

I'm trying to import an XML file into Civil 3D, but I keep getting a message "not a land XML file.

Please select another file". The file I'm trying to open is a .xml extension which I d/l from openstreetmaps.org

Attached is the file for your review.

Thanks in advance for any help.

FAD,

That XML file might not be anything C3D can use, because of formatting or the information it contains. Best to stick with Shapefiles if you're looking for Streets and Creeks.

Hi Dave,

Thanks thats what I thought it might have something to do with the formatting. Now I have to find some shp files that show creek names in Sonoma county which is tough.

FAD,

Bring out your inner Google:
"sonoma county creeks streams rivers data download shapefiles"

Attached is a shapefile from that search.

Shapefiles come with at least 4 files: DBF, PRJ, SHP, and SHX. Open the PRJ file with any text editor to find the coordinate system. This one is a Geographic Coordinate System using the NAD 83 Datum. When you MAPIMPORT the shapefile, AutoCAD will automatically pick up the "LL83" Coordinate System. As for the Vertical Datum, like NAVD, Civil 3D doesn't use it and doesn't care about it.

Hi Dave,

I tried using google to search for the streams but all what I find is old stuff. Can you tell me the link where you found this.

Thanks

FAD,

Please mark only the post(s) that actually solved your question as the "Solution".

As for providing a link, I just saved the zip file with the shape before sending it to you. So I'd have to do the search again. So no, sorry, I didn't save the link.

Ok, no problem but I did solve my problem finding the link of your zip file so I gave credit to it.
