Import settings

Good afternoon for all, from Perú

I hope you are well,

I need your big help, about the import settings in C3D.

I know that there is an option to migrate all the configuration that is in the folder where the default configuration is restored (photo attachment) but in my pc it does not find it I think it is installed, my question is that in C3D they do not include it or You have to download it or there is another way to import the configuration.

I would thank you infinitely if you can absolve me of this concern.image.png

Unfortunanetly there is no import custom or export custom settings shortcuts. in order to get this you need to create custom shortcuts. If you could post the target path for your reset to default, I could help you modify it to import custom settings.

Is what I use to import saved settings:

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2018\AdMigrator.exe" /i /product C3D /language "en-US"

I try to migrate all settings, for example, the color of the ribbon, the aliases, the plots style, the direction file autosave, templates, etc.

I don't know if you have tried it, but in the Options dialog box under Profiles, you can export your current profile, which keeps all of the paths to your plotters, support files, fonts, etc that you have setup, but it will be for the current version of the CAD that you are using.  A longer work around is to expand all of your file paths and take screen shots, email them to yourself or save them on a server or thumb drive so you can view them later.

Your template file should be saved somewhere other than your PC so that when you change a setting that you want to save for all future drawings you can find it easier than where the default location is.  Your template is probably more important than your profile.

As far as aliases, you can edit your acad.pgp file and save it also.

Hope this is the direction you are headed.

I exported a profile from C3D 2015 to import into 2018. About half of the settings came through and "QSAVE" would talke 3-5 minutes. I deleted the profile and did the screen shot option. I'm still missing items that I can't find.

Yes sure, great idea, but for the other hand, AutoCAD has a specific option, to do all this, the name is Import/Migrate a Settings, but I don't know why, in C3D  is including, I attach an image of this particular option.

C3d only has a reset to defaults, you have to create your own, as I noted above.   did you have any luck creating a shortcut with the proper arguments to import settings?

I did not have luck, on the other hand I did not understand well to create one of my own, for example I have the backup copy that is stored in a ".rar".
I would be very helpful if you could hang a video (screencast), I would like it infinitely.

screencast isnt something that can easily be created for modifying a shortcut, as the windows seem to constantly pop back and forth, not staying on a particular screen as specified.

step by step procedure

click start button

find your AutoCAD C3D 2018 folder:

image.png

open it

find the Reset settings to default

Right click on it, click on More -> Open file location

image.png

right click on Reset Settings to Default

select copy

right click in  a blank area click paste

if you get a box asking for permission to copy and paste it, answer in a positive manor

you'll now have a Reset Settings to Default - Copy

Rename it to Import Custom Settings

It may give you a box asking for permission to rename it, answer in a positive manor

Right click on the newly renamed file and select properties

image.png

In the properties dialog select the shortcut tab:

image.png

in the target box replace the word /reset with /i

click OK

double click the file

Good answer, but there is something that I am not very clear in the last step. Change / reset / for / reset with / but when I run, the window shows me the same as with (reset sttings to default) and does not give me to choose the configuration saved in the ".rar"

image.pngI'm sorry but I have little time to understand, I know that the answer is there

can you show a screenshot of your properties dialog of the new tool?

in the screenshot I provided there is a /reset within the target

delete the word reset and place an i so where it said /reset it now says /i

On my system before:

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2018\AdMigrator.exe" /reset /product C3D /language "en-US"

After:

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2018\AdMigrator.exe" /i /product C3D /language "en-US"

The thing is, I dont know what your Target is currently, and telling you to replace what you have with what I have might not work for you.

Also, typically when you export your settings it creates a zip file for reimporting later
