Import point marker Style, Point label style, Marker rotation and Label rotation

Hi there,

I use AutoDesk Civil3D 2019.1.
At this moment I import X, Y, Z coordinates with a CSV file. In C3D I use the INSERT - Points from file to import the coordinates and use a 3D Multi view block as a marker.
I have made a number of point groups and point styles and importing is fine. When I look at the point list, I see that a few columns are empty. These are the columns Style, Point label style, Marker rotation and Label rotation.

When I look at the import at Specify Point File format, I do not see these options in the selection menu

Now my question is, can I import data for these columns via the CSV file?

Usually those are set either by Default or by Point Group.

If a point belongs to more than one group. The highest in highest in the Point Groups properties list controls.

I don't know of any way to bring them in from a points file. There are the options for point import columns.

Hi Allen,

thanks for your reply.

When I import the coordinates, I give them a default point style as you can see in the picture below:

C3D_1.jpg

After importing the point and looking at the Point Editor, the Fiels Style and label Style are empty:

C3D_2.jpg

The points have there default style, but if I want to change that style I've to do that manually by clicking on the fields in the Style collum.

Do you know if there is a way to do this more automaticly, for example by filling the fields in Excel and import them into C3D?

Hello!

After something has been imported there are a few options, but conditional.

- If the points you want to change have consectutive numbers, you can select them via that and change the style in the properties panel

- if they have a common description - use a style that recognizes them

The best way is to know which points need to be different and separate them AT IMPORT, with a specific description. And then use styles to change their appearance.

Cheers,

Igor

The best way to change the styles for points in the drawing is to have them separated into point groups and change the styles of the point group. Even better is to have them assigned with Description Keys during import.

To populate the columns in the point list either import the points using description keys as @AllenJessup indicates or I the point group window, override tab select the options to override the point and label styles. This will force all points in that point group to use the indicated styles after updating the point group(s). You can right individual point groups to update or update all point groups by right clicking the point group tree heading (or by typing UPDATEALLPOINTGROUPS). Note that if a point is in more than one point group,  settings applied to the points from the point group at the top of the list of point groups overrides settings for point groups below it in the list.

Thanks Allen, it works!

Got some struggle to build a Description Key Set, but with the help of the AutoDesk Forum and Youtube it's working fine right now

Hi guys,

I'm back with another question about Description key sets.

First step was importing X,Y,Z coordinates and give them the right style. That works fine with description key sets.

I also want to import the rotation of the marker. Every marker has his own rotation so I don't want to adjust them manually.

Is it possible to import the marker rotation and how can I realis this?

I was struggling all day, making my description key set working and finally it works!

I can now position 3D object on the right coordinates w the right rotation

only thing left is the elevation. But that's for tomorrow 🙂
