i have a buch of points.  i just want a crude [grid] surface using these points

is there a way to do that?  just a simple [grid] surface.. from some cogo points.  no point cloud... just the points

1 or 2 points per 1120 square feet (around 700 points)

Not a Grid Surface, but you can use those points to make a TIN Surface.

Can you post your point file?

After creating the TIN surface, use SURFACEEXPORTTODEM command to export to a grid surface, and then use _AECCCREATESURFACEGRIDFROMDEM to create a drawing-base grid surface from the exported grid surface.

Exporting to .DEM rounds elevations off to the nearest whole meter.   Can't say what Civil3D does exporting .ASC or .TIF formats.

I dont know much about grid surfaces other than it sounds like the intention is to normalize huge data. wyh is a TIN unsuitable? for 700 point?

Well I see "Grid Surface" creation is so esoteric that there isn't a single youtube video on how to do it... WOW!

anyhow reading your post more closely I see "crude"

1. make you standard TIN surface

2. place cogo points by grid (to your liking) on the surface

3. make your " Crude Grid" TIN surface from those points

@Anonymous, thanks to @TerryDotson, I have realized that exporting to .DEM format makes all elevations round to the meter. If you export to GeoTIFF, that won't happen.

You will still use the same command as before, but just be sure to set your Files of type to GEOTIFF (*.tif). Files of type setting will be found on the dialog when you specify Dem file name from the Export Surface to DEM dialog.
