How to represent a slope wrapping around an object

Hi everyone. I'm trying to model a concrete caisson for land reclamation purposes. The thing is I want to represent its backfill, which eventually wraps around the caisson and ends touching its front face. I've tried to recreate this using the grading tool, but have not been successful. I'm attaching a simple image of the caisson with the contact areas of the slope, which by the way, is equal along all of the faces.

 

I am not a native English speaker, so if you need any clarification on the issue, feel free to ask.

If you model the object as a surface the grading object should wrap around it. You can't have a vertical face but you can make it very close. Model your ground surface to include the near vertical face and the grading should work.

I've already tried it, but the slope cuts directly through the object. I might be doing something wrong, though...

If I am understanding this correctly it should pretty straight forward pad grading with the pad height extending upward. Or separate surfaces for the caisson and daylight

I am sorry, but I don't understand your reply. My English is a bit limited. But let me explain the images: From the EG I graded the foundation for the caisson in question. Then I created a new surface to which the EG and the foundation were pasted. Next step, I added two closed polylines as breaklines for the caisson  with an offset of 0.001m and considering its height. The I created a new surface with EG+Foundation+Caisson and then graded against it, obtaining the results I attached earlier.

 

I don't know what am I doing wrong.

EG+foundation +caisson. And then what surface are you targeting for the backfill daylight around the caisson? EG ? If that's true you would have an looping problem targeting EG from a surface that contains EG .

Take EG out then you can target from the poly line wrapped around the caisson

I'm afraid I'm targeting the EG+Foundation+Caisson. I can't see any looping problem with that. In fact, I'm doing that so C3D recognizes the caisson as an obstacle, just to allow the slope wrap around it.

 

Should I attach the drawing for you to try it out? I would really appreciate it. I have very little experience with the grading tool.

Please post your drawing. If you modeled the caisson correctly, as Matt said, you should have no problem. If the caisson is not modeled correctly, Joe is right, you'll have a looping problem.

I cant do a screen recording at the moment but perhaps a description will help someone understand the technique and pt one together.

 

Looking at a simplerectangl oriented parallel to north, Assigne elevations to th 2 top corners. Next add an elevation point to the mid point of the bottom side. Now use the slope between points tools to apply a contant slope between the top corners and the bottomm mid point. The cocept works for any given elevations for the 3 starting points.

I realize after a moment the solution I suggested may not apply to this scenario. I asumed the slopes around the caison wee to meet at the mid point of the bottom of therectagle. Inthe senario prented by the OP, the criteria is for the four corners to be known (established by the slopes of th fill bank. What we need to find is the point along the bottom edge where the slopes are equal between the 2 bottom corners. For that solution we use the Hi.Low point tool to project the slopes along the sides to meet.

I have your file but still trying to understand what you want to do

 

This is my understanding of the surfaces you have 

 

Superficie Base = Existing ground

 

Pedraplén = foundation that ties into Superfice base

 

Cajón Este = Caisson to the north. Why is it not squarely on the foundation?

Is it your intention to fill around the caisson on top of the fill for the foundation?  Where is your top of slope line around the caisson as shown in your first post?

I don't know if I'm understanding you correctly.

Knowing the slope (3H:2V) and going from Z=+2 m, I know that it will meet the edge of the caisson at Z=-6, given that this one has 12 m of width. Along the front face, the slope will contact the foundation at Z=-16 m. Are you stating that the grading feature line should follow that path? By the way, a screen recording of the solution would be great!

Cajón Este = Caisson to the north. Why is it not squarely on the foundation? (There needs to be some extra space for scouring prevention)

Banqueta= Sidewalk? why does it cover two location (caisson rubble foundation, there are 2 caissons, but I just want to learn to solve one of them)

The purpose is to make the backfill wrap around the caisson as it would naturally do given the 3:2 slope.

I forgot to finish the infill of the grading surface, that's why it is still open on the top. The backfill is 5 m wide at the top.

You seem to have an understanding. is the intent to find the backfill path along the caisson or grade from back fill path? What is the target if grading from the BFP.

I concur with your observations. I assumed the midpoint of the front of the caisson meets the foundation grade and set the path from there. What are we daylighting to from that path?

The intent is to grade the backfill to the EG+Caisson+Foundation, in case the grade contacts anything else apart from the EG. But I've seen that daylighting from the BFP doesn't give the desired result.

 

I'm not in front of the PC at the moment, so I can't attach a screenshot. Sorry.

When when creating the Feature line  for the back fill path it is essentially draped on the caisson. This is why it appears the grading does not work when targeting SB+Banqueta+Cajones. The grading actually works on SB+Banqueta+Cajones, but 100% of the FL lies on the Caisson therefore the projection goes nowhere. 

 

Remove Cajones from the target surface and the grading works. The BFP feature line I assumed the midpoint  at the front of the caisson met the top of foundation. @ -16 and graded up to the corners

I see there's something wrong. If you just go back to my simplified image in which I showed the caisson with the BFP, you will note that the slope starts just at the back of it. I'll attach my 2nd try following your directions (don't know if I did correctly). It doesn't look good to me; by introducing this restricting feature line, the grading isn't done properly...

My apologies E, I overlooked part of the grading. So if the front is at top of foundation, adjust at desired constant slope, correct?
