How to Force a "Repair" to a data reference vs. a "Synchronize"

I have a project were I have set up existing surfaces, alignments, corridors and x sections for a preliminary design. All standard stuff. I have copied the entire folder structure to a new "DetailedDesign" folder and used the Data Shortcut editor to re-path the shortcuts to the new folder paths and et the "Use to Match" option to NAME ONLY.

All has went well, except for a couple corridor files. When I open the corridor files I was able to "repair" the alignment references and they automatically pathed to the new project location file paths. However, the existing surface data reference only has the option to "Synchronize". When I select that option it tells me the "The reference could not be sychronized because its location has changed. Please reopen this document to update this reference."

My question is how can you force a REPAIR vs. a Synchronize so I can point it to the new file and location?

Have you tried using the Manage Tab\Manage Data Shortcuts?

On the left hand side you can select your current dwg DREFs and on the right you will see the current Shortcut project the dwg you is associated with.  You can specify a different Data shortcut Project and is essence overwrite the old DREF links in your DWG to a new DREF source file.  Click the little link button in the middle of dialog once you path to new source file.  Then run a normal DREF synchronization to update shortcut names etc.

What version are you referring to? I'm on C3D2015. These are the only options I have:

Darn it!  Maybe the feature I'm talking about is only for 2017.  Do you have the Data Shortcut editor by any chance?

Yes, I've got the D.S. editor. That was the 1st step I did when I copied the project to new folders. I went through and set all the shortcut references to the correct folder path and the Match criteria to Name Only. Seems to only be an issue with the surfaces shortcuts. All the alignment references able to be "Repaired" upon opening the dwgs and immediately adjusted to the new paths, but the existing surface only gives the option of "Synchronizing".

I think I may have to end up promoting this old surface, renaming it then make a new reference to the correct surface and retargeting all my targets. 😞

Dear Friend,

On the manage tab of the ribbon you have some data shortcut editing and validating options. 

Sometimes validating data shortcuts may solve the issue. Also try with manage data shortcut.

Shoot.  So you're saying that when you open the new dwg where you want to DREF in the EG Surface under the "NEW" Data Shortcut Folder structure, when you right click on the surface (that has the little yellow shield) it won't give you the option to Repair the DREF?

I'm glad the other DREFs were able to be repathed.  My only other thought is to make a copy of the EG surface source file and create a new shortcut to your new Data Shortcut Project...then DREF into your drawing.

Try renaming the EG surface file and then attempt synchronizing, it should offer the option to repair then.

Thanks, all for the assistance. Unfortunately none of those suggestions worked for me this time. I'm going to have to re-create the shortcut and re-target most of my design.  I've got to say the option of Synchronizing AND Repairing would sure be nice..... Autodesk!???

If C3D is finding shortcuts you do not want or want to change,

Close the session.

Rename the source files or folder your project is finding and you want to remap

Open the file and you are promted to repair the shortcuts.

Restore the original file/folder names.
