Create a 2d pline or just single segments and convert that to an alignment. Alignments are not 3 dimensional object that just get the 3d data from surfaces to display in profiles, cross-sections and labels.

How do I make my alignment stick to the surface and not too far below it?

You associate the alignment to a profile and then C3D will cut a profile view of the data along the alignment. Then in the profile you set a proposed profile for your alignment. Create a simple corridor then create sample lines to create sections.... Its just a process. The alignment is just a piece of the puzzle.

Hi @umss_fcyt_civil ,

Is your intent is to convert the 3d polyline to be alignment with profile? If yes, please see <screencast> below as a guide.

This can be done for any 3d polyline or featureline.

Steps needed.

1. In Civil 3D - You must have a 3d polyline available.

2. Select 3d polyline then right click mouse > select Quick Profile

3. Paste it anywhere.

4. Go to output tab then click Export to LandXML.

5. Un-tick all then click the green box (Pick from drawing.)

6. Select the profile you created then export and save to XML file.

7. In the same drawing you can now delete the quick profile.

8. In insert tab click the LandXML button to import the XML file.

9. Import both alignment and profile.

10. Create your profile view.

Note: I assume you already have generic Civil 3D template that can create alignment and profile view.

Cheers,

Jowenn

Thanks
