How to convert surface into shape?

As known, Autocad/Civil 3d DWG file might consist of different feature class dada objects such as points, lines, multilines, lables, surfaces etc.. With simple objects like points or lines it's possible to convert them with MAPEXPORT command. But what if I have surface with horizontal lines (as shown on screen shot) and I need to transform such lines into shape file lines. Is it possible? And if yes, how to do it?

So you want to export the contours (likely LwPolys with elevations) to an ESRI Shapefile?

You will need to explode the surface, twice. The first time you explode it, it will be a block. Once you explode the surface twice, then use the MAPEXPORT command.

The rule was that you can't mapexport C3D objects. Not sure if that changed in 2020.
