How to add vertices/points to existing alignment?

I have created an alignment from an object (existing polyline) and developed a longsection which in effect is a route of a fire main pipe on a mining site.

The route now has to change and I need to add to the original alignment. How do I do this?

In the image below, the red line is the alignment (with chainage shown), the purple line is where the alignment now needs to route (around a compound on site).

Is there a way to add the points of the new purple line to the existing alignment so that it updates the longsection automatically?

Edit the geometry and use the Alignment Layout Tools. Second button over from the left.

You can either select your alignment > right-click > Edit Alignment Geometry or from the Pull Down Menus > Alignments > Edit Alignment Geometry.

 

This will bring up the "Alignment Layout Tools" toolbar, from there just select the "Insert PI" button:
