How to add force main in sanitary sewer network after a lift station in SSA?

Hi,

 

I imported an existing sanitary sewer network with a lift station to SSA.

It consists of gravity mains, a storage node & three pumps (a lift station), and a couple of force main, ending with an outfall.

 

However, I get an error message (ERROR 119) when I make the pipe type to be a circular force main for the pipe network right after the lift station.

The only way I can run the analysis is to have an outfall right after the lift station. 

 

How can I include the force main in the Sanitary Sewer analysis?

 

Or, is it not significant to include the force main in the analysis? The purpose of the project is verifying the size of pipes and the lift station.

Seems to be working for me in version 2016. See attached as an example (rename to .spf).

Thanks so much for sending an example file with a force main.

 

In a process of trying to figure out the differences between your model and mine, I changed the force main in your model to gravity pipe, then changes it back to a force main and ran the model. (That was one of the process I took. All the pipes were gravity pipe first, then I changes a couple to force main. )The same error message appeared and the model cannot be run any longer.

 

Any thoughts?

I noticed that when you switch from force main to gravity and then to force main again, the software resets the hazen Williams C factor to zero, which results in an error that prevents the model run. Setting the C factor to an appropriate value lets the model run again. Maybe that is your problem.

Thank you so much for finding the C-factor going back to zero.

 

I put back my C-factors and run again.

But, it did not work.

Now, the error message says that there is negative slope for the force mains.

I was surprised that the force main cannot have a negative slope. They are real elevations from actual sewer system.

 

When I checked the project options, we need to put the minimum allowable slope and it does not take any negative slope.

Do you think this is the reason why? (The profile below show the node right after the pumps until the end of the force main.)

I do not have access to your model to check, but you should verify under Input dropdown> Project Options>Hydraulic Routing that you have it set to Hydrodynamic. See below.

I am a new SSA user.  I am trying to model an existing municipal sanitary system with nine pump stations that all pump to a central core area which then drains by gravity to the wwtp.  Does anyone know of a document or some guidance to verify my settings for the storage nodes, pumps and junctions that are needed to make up the pump station.  The web has not been helpful for these specific questions.  Thank you.

Are you thinking about a document addition to the manual? If you have not found the manual yet, you can find when you go to Start Manu > Autodesk > Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis

 

There you see the software itself and the guide.

 

If you are looking something addition to the guide, sorry, I'm not aware of. I also contacted the SSA expert in the Autodesk software providor we purchased the Civil 3D from. He was helpful as well as this forum.
