How do I reference expression using label type line between 2 points

I have a line label that works perfectly for single line and poly line multiple segment. However it gives me ??? when I use the line between 2 points label type.

I am pretty sure it has to do with the label style reference expression that only exist in the line label style expressions and somehow it can't be referenced when using the label type line between 2 points

Solutions?

Can you post a small dwg with it working in one instance and not in another?

it should work for you if you are not trying to reference expression in line label style. but if you are it will fail

Line between 2 points label style is working OK for me. Are you saying it doesn't work when you try to rope in an expression? As Mark says, please post a drawing.

Have you tried changing the format to "Dimension" or "Distance"?

i would think if that is the problem then I wouldn't even be able to label it on a line

It appears that no expression value will work in a Point to Point label.
