HEC RAS question

Silly question, and pardon but a small gripe.

I watched a few videos and the presenter insist audibly that the center line and sample lines be created from poly lines. Is this necessary?

gripe: we have this application to create all this geometry but then we have to do summersaults to monkey the data to fit HEC RAs. these are computers and supposedly AI is going to take over the world, why can the data be created and export exactly how HEC RAS wants it?

It depends how you're exporting it to HEC RAS.

I use shape files as my export medium, so I need them as polylines in order to be intact as one stream centerline and one cross section. Otherwise, HEC RAS brings them in as individual segments (lines). It's not really something that can be changed with our evolving tech, since HEC RAS is still using old tech and calc methods for the 1D analysis. Now, the newer analysis methods might let us do more, but it's still all based on that old style of input data.

But, that's all a conversation for the Corp. 😄
