Hatch Geometry area... sometimes

Two hatch areas all things being equal except layers and pattern name. One hatch gives me the properties geometry, Elevation, Area & Cumulative area. The other hatch geometry will display Elevation only.

Why?

Hi @RobertEVs, I guess your hatch was created using a polyline that had overlapping nodes and segments. Take a look at the following polygons:

They look the same except for one thing, that tiny cross that you can see when zooming in and out on the polygon to the right. Once the hatch is created in both, the hatch for the polygon on the left provides the information you mentioned, whereas the hatch created with the polygon on the right does not.

So, if the hatches were created with polygons that present this condition, they might not provide the full information.

Interesting. So how can you remove overlapping nodes? I looked at current vertex in the properties and can see what you mean. Any way to get the cross or X larger? Also notice that as I hover over than node there is no option to add nor remove vertex

I worked with an engineer who use to take the grips of a hatched area he didn't want and he would just snap them to other grips to get rid of them, thus, then he could not get an area.

Hi @RobertEVs, I agree with @AllenJessup, use the MAPCLEAN command to solve that. Another option is to explode your polygon, then use OVERKILL to get rid of the duplicated segments.  Finally, select all the segments and join them again to form the polygon.

Pretty much proof you have coincident vertices. This can happen if you close a polyline by snapping to the end of the first segment rather than using Close.

I do have this little app from the Sincpac, also CTRL > Clicking a polyline will allow removal of one segment at a time.

I'll give another thumbs up for Sincpac. Fills in a lot of the gaps especially on the Survey end. Lots of tools for handling points. I originally bought it for the ability to dynamically link points to a proposed Surface. Check it out.
