Grip Line Plotting on my Surface Label Group

Hello, I am new to Civil 3D. I am labeling a surface TIN with Contours - Multiple. Why is the grip line showing? In the tutorial I watched, it should have just disappeared when the Label Group is not active. The line is showing up when I go to plot the sheet, and I cannot figure out what setting/layer to change in order to get it to vanish and leave just the contours. Please help!

For future labels go to the toolspace palette and on the settings tab right click on surface and select Edit Feature Settings then under Contour Labeling Defaults change Display Contour Label Line to False. 

For existing ones select them all in the drawing and go to the properties tab an change Display Contour Label Line to False
