Grading surface erroneously generating between two drives

I am designing a pad that will have two drives to it.  I have the pad boundary as a closed featureline.  I have two corridors leading to the pad, one for each drive.  I have grading created by extracting feature lines from the two corridors, then adding them to the grading Site, along with the pad boundary.  Creating the grading looks fine, but when I do auto surface creation from the grading group, it creates a surface between the two drives.  I cannot figure out how to eliminate this.  The boundary function for the grading surface will bound the wrong side.  help?

Thanks,

JD

Add a Hide Boundary to the Surface.

If you use a hide boundary, he hidden section will still be included in the volume calculation, will it not?

No, it will not.

You apply the hide boundary to the comparison surface, not the volume surface.

It is easy enough to test yourself.

I looked at your drawing. There seem to be a couple of rough spots. I suggest an alternate approach:

  1. Create a site and grading group "Pad"
    1. Include automatic surface "Pad"
    2. Include a grading from the pad perimeter to the EG surface. This should be around the entire pad, including the driveway areas.
    3. You may need to edit paste the "Pad Surface" surface into the definition of "Pad"
  2. Create a working surface "EG and Pad"
    1. Edit Paste "EG" surface.
    2. Edit Paste "Pad" surface.
  3. Modify your driveway corridor assemblies to include daylight subassemblies that target the "EG and Pad" surface.
  4. Update the north and south driveway corridors.
  5. Extract surfaces from the driveway corridors. "North DW" and "South DW."
  6. Create surface "Full Design Grading"
    1. Edit Paste "Pad" surface.
    2. Edit Paste "North DW" surface.
    3. Edit Paste "South DW" surface.
  7. Create Tin Volume Surface "Volume"
    1. Base = EG
    2. Comparison = "Full Design Grading"

Good Luck.

intereseting, thanks.  I will try that.  Definitely some rough spots, this is my first attempt at combining a pad design with a corridor.
