Grading Creation Slope to Surface not working

Anonymous

Hi, I am trying to simply tie my proposed surface to existing at a 4:1 slope. Within my drawing I have created a parking lot and a small detention pond. I have created a Slope to Surface once before but deleted it after I changed my site. I already have a grading group site for the previous grading and have created a second site for the new one I am working on. Whenever I try to tie the surface around the pond nothing happens. Whenever I try to tie the surface around the parking lot my cad freezes and I have to restart the software. This is probably a user error or I have some setting I am missing. Anyone know what it might be? Thanks in advance.

A mystery more easily solved by your posting of the drawing...

I understand your reluctance to post your dwg to a public website. It's probably safe, but...

We can work around that.

Turn on the surface triangles for your original ground surface. In the surface style editor change the outer border of the og surface to a heavy line. Take a snapshot of that.

Edit the grading and take a snapshot of the dialog.

I noticed that the original grading group (that I thought was deleted) was actually on a layer that was turned off. I deleted it and was able to create grading around my detention pond however, When I tried to create grading around the parking lot the software still froze.

In image one you can see the existing ground triangles on as well as the boarder in blue. The yellow dashed line is my property line so I can't grade outside that. I need to tie in there.

I don't have an answer for you. I would need the drawing...

Thank you for your time on this issue. It looks like I was trying to build new grading on top of a group that I had already created but forgot about because it was frozen. Once I deleted the old one, I was able to fix the problem without the software crashing. I never would have found that if you hadn't asked me to start editing my styles. Thanks again for the help!

I am having the same issue so I figured I would continue this thread instead of start a fresh one. I know there are a multitude of reasons why a "Grade to Surface" might freeze and the issue/solution is probably specific. I am wondering if I have some sites or grading groups as @Anonymous had.

When I go to delete two of the sites that I didn't think have any data I get the message "Site" could not be deleted. Perhaps it has children, or is referenced by another object.
