Getting subassy to display in section view (adding code)

I have a custom subassy created from a polyline as shown below.

I need the outline of this subassy to show up in a section view. How do I add the appropriate code to get it to do so?

The only thing I've been able to do thus far is add a shape to the subassy, but that doesn't appear in the section view.

When attempting to add code, C3D prompts you to "Enter Code" and then to select point, link, or shape. I've tried experimenting with this to no avail.

I made a basic square poly line to represent a lock block shape and then defined this shape to be a sub assembly

first pick shape  and from cursor select add code type in "top" to be a link code etc.

The whole pick link, point and add or remove codes is very tedious and since i learned the very basics

of Sub assembly composer i built my block in SAC and added user changeable codes there.

Import this block.pkt to tool palettes and select to insert to assembly

and change codes in the properties

The define sub assembly from polyline is a pain versus SAC for coding etc changes etc.

Mind you SAC is no joy ride but no pain no gain

Hi DDemaree,

I will try to point you to the right direction. I think somewhere in the process you are missing something.

1. Create SubAssembly from polylines
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-civil-3d/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/...

2. Add points, shape, link codes from subassembly created from polylines
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-civil-3d/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/...

3. Make sure you have updated your code set style to reflect the point code you want to use in cross section. To see it in you assembly in model space make sure the assembly have the same code set style.

4. For more info about cross section please visit this thread link

Please Watch post 2 by Mike and

See Post 11 by me and that will give you more guidance with what you are trying todo.

Hope it helps.

Cheers,
Jowenn

Thx Peter. I agree with your assessment of the user interface regarding adding codes to a subassy created from a polyline - not very intuitive.

I created my shape in SAC, added the codes there, imported the pkt file and all is well now.

While I can see that SAC has its issues, it's much easier to see what's going on with your subassy through that interface, especially what codes are attached to what points/links vs. blindly adding them through the command line.

Thx for the detailed reply Jowenn. Per my previous post I decided to switch tactics and use SAC.

I think my issue was during the actual command prompts when attempting to add the code - I had a hard time following the prompts because there was no visual indication that anything was happening, (aside from when you add a shape and can actually see the subassy become filled).

This process was much easier to do through SAC.
