GEOMAP / not functioning and when activated, no maps, and cursor sticky

I've installed and reinstalled Civil 3D 2024 and now my geomap isn't working.  I have my correct coordinate system settings, and entities in the area, however whenever I turn on hybrid, aerial, or street view, no imagery comes up and my cursor becomes sticky around the screen.  I also receive this error in my geographiclocation command:

Please help!

Try this:

  1. Open a clean, brand new imperial (or metric) template.
  2. Before, drawing, adding, pasting, or creating any object, assign your coordinate system. You may use MAPCSASSIGN. Use the search box to assist to select the appropriate CS for your drawing.
  3. Once your CS has been properly assigned, zoom out using your mouse wheel. Keep zooming out until you see the red geomarker. The marker looks like a small red bicycle wheel with red spokes. Center the geomarker in the middle of modelspace.
  4. Next, go to Geolocation Tab=>Online Map Panel=>change Map Off to Bing Hybrid then wait for Bing logo to appear in lower right corner of modelspace, Be patient. AutoCAD is making an internet connection to Bing's map server and your workstation's ability to connect determines how this process will go.
  5. Once Bing is connected, use your mouse to zoom-in (or zoom-out) and pan to your site. Use the labels in Bing Hybrid to effectively navigate to your site .

If you don't see Bing logo in lower right corner it means your workstation isn't connecting to Bing's map server. Your IT department may need to make your workstation 'Bing server friendly.'

The geolocation function you show in your uploaded image does work!! But it's tricky to use, very tricky. Unless you have a thorough understanding of coordinate geometry that procedure may fail when assigning a CS. Or your coordinates may be inaccurate despite making a successful Bing connection. Be careful, using AutoCAD for many decades does NOT constitute a 'thorough understanding' of coordinate geometry--it just means you've been drawing lines for a long time.

Also having this issue along with the geographic location command having the same error. Our IT has whitelisted the URLs specified by Autodesk. Going to see if there's some extra things that need whitelisted by them to make this work.

The ‘geolocation command’ does have to be (and shouldn’t be) used because they are easier and more effective ways to establish geospatial accuracy.

Simply assigning an appropriate coordinate system to a clean, brand new, drawing is accurate even though ‘simple assigning’ is not a method commonly used by others including you.

May be because many users doesn’t know which CS to assign (online tools can determine which CS may be assigned) or maybe it’s due to the inexperience many users have with coordinate geometry. Either way, the geolocation command should be avoided.

The advocacy of the geolocation command makes its popular, it doesn’t make the command easy mor effective.

WARNING:

The geolocation command doesn’t necessarily make a non-geospatial drawing an accurately georeferenced one. You’ll need to move, scale, and/or rotate the linework to physically position the objects in modelspace to do that. Or you’ll need to redraw (recreate) from scratch after establishing an appropriate CS. The ‘geolocation command’ will provide your drawing with background aerial imagery but it doesn’t mean the resulting Lat/Longs and (x,y) coordinates will both be accurate against the aerial imagery.

Oh I don't use the geolocation command at all, just confirming I did get the same error he did when using it. I've always either changed it in drawing settings or using mapassigncs. The laggy cursor is also a weird thing that comes up, I'm assuming it's the service trying to authenticate with Bing but can't and just fails and repeats over and over as it goes away once you set your map to off.
