Geolocation is Having Issues

I have gone to numerous locations and several areas are coming in entirely wrong. The main one that is not showing correct is Texas and this could be from the zones changing because of US Survey Foot being retired. Not entirely sure, but Texas North Central is showing Nebraska and Iowa, Michigan, or some place in Mexico. Even if you switch to the newly created Central it cuts off short of what is included in Central, basically erasing all of Dallas Fort Worth and north until you get to the panhandle.

I've tried a couple of other states and those are hit and miss as well. Anyone else having this issue? Is it a Bing or Civil 3D issue? I would assume Bing?

Update: This does not occur on 2026 Software. This does happen in 2024 though.

@kevincobabe ,

Sometimes this happens when you assign a coordinate system, turn the map on, then assign a new system while the original map was still on.

SO JUST TO BE CLEAR, have you tried saving your DWG then restarting Civil 3D and opening the file again to confirm?

Best,

~DD

@kevincobabe ,

My North Central TX USSFT systems (in C3D 2023) appear to be correct:

I have done this in new drawings, existing drawings, drawings with a zone applied and then applying another. All of them in 2024 show the wrong location. As a test for my CAD staff I used 2026 to verify if it's only a 2024 bug and it does seem to be that way as 2026 works as expected.

Then this is a 2024 issue as stated in my update.

@kevincobabe ,

Can you maybe post an empty DWG file with just the 'incorrect' system applied so we can view?

Hi Kevin,
"Texas North Central is showing Nebraska and Iowa, Michigan, or some place in Mexico."
As @CodeDing says, it would be helpful to post a 2024 drawing with location issues.
Are you using either the Transformation Tab or Edit Location?

Forget your drawing for a minute. Try running this experiment:

1. Open a clean, unadulterated OOTB imperial template, the kind with only one layer named 0 and with current Styles named Standard. Assign coordinate system named TX83-NCF then turn on Bing Hybrid. Zoom-in and pan to your site using Bing’s labels as a guide.

<<If you don’t initially see Bing imagery zoom-out until you see the red geomarker, looks like a red bicycle wheel w/red spokes, then zoon-in. The geomarker is centered on Bing.>>

2. Next, go to your original drawing and copy with basepoint a few drawing objects to your clipboard. Be sure to use 0,0 as the copy’s basepoint.

Go back to your new drawing and paste the contents from your clipboard. Be sure to paste to insertion point=0,0 then zoom to extents.

3. Analyze the pasted result. If pasted objects land in right the spot on Bing imagery, your original drawing is good. If they don’t then your original is not geospatially accurate and needs to be corrected.

——————————————————————————————-

If you insist on re-assigning the coordinate system of your current drawing, the click the Remove Location button (it’s like hitting the ‘clear’ button on your calculator) BEFORE re-assigning. After reassignment you may turn on Bing Hybrid and zoom to extents to verify geospatial accuracy. <<The Remove Location  button is found in the Planning and Analysis workspace.>>
