Finding ZERO elevations on contours

I have created contours on a drawing, but have a zero elevation on one.

How can I find it?

Well you should see the "hole in the ground" if you have contours going to "0".

When I created my surface off the proposed contours, I had a few "big holes" on my surface contours, and my outer breakline also created big holes.

It makes my TIN separation way off.

How do I fix this?

Run a FILTER on your definition data with an elevation filter of 0.

@Anonymous you can also delete all zero or negative elevations of the points. It could fix your surface.

It's always best practice to have correct native definition data than to use the Exclude operations on the surface builds.  Isolate the contours and tilt your view a bit in the XY plane using the pre-set NW Isometric view and you'll quickly see the offenders and be able to correct them.

Turn on your triangles.  When you have a surface that "drops" to a zero elevation, you should see some very tightly spaced contours and the inner most contour will "surround" that zero elevation point.  The triangle will show you exactly where that is.  See below.  In this example, I already know where the zero elevation is because I specifically added a cogo point there.

Another thing I've found useful:

 

  1. Use the VPorts command to divide my screen into 2 (or more) vports.
  2. Hold the SHIFT key while pressing the mouse wheel/middle mouse button and dragging the mouse (all at the same time).  This will allow me to change the vport to a 3d view (as shown in the upper right vport).
  3. Now I can draw a line that is snapped to the end point of the triangle at the zero elevation point.
  4. When I switch to one of the 2d vports, I can see exactly where this is in the horizontal view.

From there, you should be able to figure out what to change.

I'll add two more one similar to one above.

 

Select all of the pline contours, Use Quick Select to find all plines at elevation = 0.

 

 

Go into a front, left, right or rear view and you will see the contours at elevation zero very quickly.
