Finding Service Pack Info for Civil 3D 2017 ...

How do you determine which service pack, if any, is installed on Civil 3D 2017?

It used to be that there was a very simple "SP1" sort of information after the product information in the About dialog box. But not there is only the numeric version number.

So ... what does that translate int?

Solution:

There are several tools that you can use to help determine your current version of the software:

  • Product Information dialog box. AutoCAD 2004 and later versions use the Product Information dialog box to display build information. This dialog box can be accessed by clicking Help > About and then selecting the Product Information dialog box. For older versions, use one of the other methods discussed here.

  • VERNUM command. Enter _vernum on the command line. Versioning information is then displayed on the command line. For example:

    Command: _vernum
    _VERNUM = "U.1.20" (read only)

  • VERCHECK program. The vercheck.arx file is available after you run LiveUpdate to install a service pack. The service pack installation will add the vercheck.arx into your program Support folder. Use the APPLOAD command to select and load vercheck.arx. Once loaded, on the command line enter vercheck. The text window will contain several lines of versioning information. For example:

    Command: vercheck
    Product Name     : AutoCAD 2000i
    Product Code     : {5783F2D7-0001-0409-0000-0060B0CE6BBA}
    Package Code     : {B2A1C7A4-4051-11D4-855F-001083024389}
    Product Version  : 15.0.5.120
    Product Language : 1033
    Install Type     : 1
    Install Source   : E:\
    Install Date     : 20000908
    Lock Type        : 0

    Note: Additional information about the vercheck.arx program can be found in the Support folder in the ProdidUtil.txt file.

Thanks. I thought "VERNUM" was the command but I forgot the underscore.

Well that is just whack. My workstations here do not have the SP information!

Is your C3D a standalone product? Ours are installed from the IDS Premium. I wonder if that makes a difference.

  • For Windows XP, click the Windows Start menu Control Panel Add/Remove Programs Show Updates.
  • For Windows 7, click the Windows Start menu Control Panel Programs and Features View Installed Updates.
  • For Windows 8, right-click the Windows Start screen (or use the swipe up gesture from the bottom edge while on the Start screen). Click All Apps Windows System Control Panel Programs and Features Uninstall a Program View Installed Updates.

To add to this.. keep in mind that you now need to install the service packs for AutoCAD, Mapetc., separate as well as the service pack for Civil 3D.  They are no longer included.

This information was copied from an ancient KB document that applies to, at the very latest, AutoCAD 2008. It does not apply to Civil 3D at all.

In the future, please check the "Applies to" and just post a link to the article, so we can decipher it ourselves.

Note that _Vernum only returns information on AutoCAD. For Civil 3D, there is the command AECCVERSION, which strangely enough, returns version information on various DBX files; and which, even more strangely do not all match. I have (what I believe is) a fully patched C3D 2017 and some of the DBX files are version [11.0.771.0] and others are [11,0,659,0].

I found this thread while looking for a way to programatically determine these values. Doesn't look like there is a way....
