Extract 3D strings from corridor with arcs

Hi all,

A surveyor has requested 3D strings for setting out (crown, edge of seal, top of kerb, back of kerb etc).  But he also wanted the strings to be made of straight lines and arcs.

I have not received a request like this.  Usually we just extract feature lines from the corridor at an interval where the curves have a sort of smoothness to them, although it is made up of many small straight lines.

I can think of ways of potentially making a 3D line with arcs, but all the workflows are quite convoluted.  Some sort of workflow involving draping a line over a surface, or an alignments and corridor made from a marked point only.

Is this a request you have received?  Do you know of a quick and easy workflow?

Not good enough anymore?

Hi,

According to my understanding, an arc can only be created in a single plane (2D Plane), your corridor extracted feature line is a 3D polyline, in a 3D polyline a 2D arc cannot be drawn, however, some helix could be drawn (feature lines usually create helixes while we specify a radius).

Thankyou

strings is slang for the data we export and provide to the surveyor so they can set out their construction strings.  See examples below.
