Extend Surface Beyond Alignment in Profile View

I'm slowly learning Civil 3D.

I have created a surface of my 2-ish acre site. Inside that site, I have created a pipe network with inlets and a headwall outlet. I have also created an alignment from that finished network, starting at station 0+00 and ending around 3+00. 

I'm attempting to show the whole thing in a profile view. I've set up the profile view to show 50 extra feet before and after the 1st and last station of the network. It looks better this way. However I can't get the profile view of the surface to extend. 

The surface that shows above my pipe network starts and stops at the beginning and end of the network. I wish it would extend further.

What is the best way to have the ground surface extend beyond the ends of the alignment in a profile view?

Just extend the alignment to the extents that you wish to show in the profile view. For example, pull the alignment back, say, 50 feet before the pipe network, and maybe another 50 or so feet past the end of the network. The profile view will dynamically extend the surface to these new limits. You might want to change the start of the alignment to -0+50 so that the beginning of the pipe network still starts at 0+00.

Dear Friend,

You have to extend the alignment to view further. If you need the start to be extended you can add an entity to the front part.

In adding the entity you need to be careful about the direction. I

f your alignment runs from right to left you new entity should start before 0 (right side of 0) and connect to 0.

Then the stations will go to negative values such as -0+10 and so on.

After that go to profile view properties--->stations tab---->user defined stations 

Set the largest negative value to the start. 

Then the extension of surface profile will show up.

If you need to extend the end of alignment you need to do the vice versa of this procedure. I think you got it.

You might also be able to try a projection, but that is not the elegant solution.

I think I will post it on Civil 3D Ideas.

I need something similar often for Storm Sewers.  We use the Alignment as the Center Line of the Storm Sewer.  At outfalls if we stop at the structure rather than the termination of the structure there is no surface shown.

Thank you, this is what I needed. 

Part of the problem was the direction of the line I added before the Beginning Point of the alignment. Anything added to the end automatically increased the alignment length. But when I added a section to the beginning I had to either have the correct direction or reverse the direction after drawing.

THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED - THANKS. DIDN'T CONSIDER THE DIRECTION OF THE LINE I WAS ADDING TO THE ALIGNMENT.
