Exporting to DWG fails when surface labels are included in file

So here's a new problem that just started happening:
Civil 3d 2017 is not allowing me to export a project to DWG if the file includes surface label information. If the file only has a surface it will export without issue. When any label information is included the software does export a file with the "ACAD-" prefix, however the resulting file still includes a tin surface and surface object labels. When trying to export the same file to DXF I receive a 'fatal error' and am kicked out of the program.
Another odd note:
During an unsuccessful export to DWG I receive a command line warning that the system variables 'SELECTIONPREVIEW' and 'FILEDIA' have been changed, requiring me to reset them to my preferred setting.
Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on, or is my only option performing a complete uninstall / reinstall?
