Exporting map image from civil 3D.

Hello,

I've just used geolocation for importing a bing map on my drawing. Then I exported it to autoCAD ver. 2010. I used CAD 2012 and I found that the map disappeared although when I used CAD 2016-2018-2020 "and I think every version with geolocation" the map showed up! What I want is how to make it shows up with old version or how can I export the image as .png and make it as an Xref in the CAD drawing or somthing like that.

Thanks

Mahmoud,
In Civil 3D 2012 you can use Google Maps, but it is not nearly as convenient as the Bing Live Maps available from 2014 up. The "Live" part of Bing Live Maps means that it is a connection made available through licences and permissions, which is why you can't easily export it as a PNG. There are various workarounds and hacks to grab these images, but honestly, the best way is to look for geo-referenced imagery that is publicly available. Start your search with your local government entity. Most governments do regular image panels to catch building permit scofflaws.

If you can't find any good imagery through your local municipalities or GIS groups, you can use an alternate method using HEC RAS (version 5.0.7, from the US Corp of Engineers). It has the ability to pull several different image layers that you can then export for reuse in Civil 3D. However, the quality of these images will differ based on the location of your project and the source it has available.

don't know if it will help but there is this command

BMPOUT
Generates a bitmap image (.bmp format) after selecting a series of objects, surfaces, or regions.
