DXF defaults to imperial

Hi everyone,

I have a problem when exporting a dxf file from a dwg with AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Civil 3D is in metric, so is the master template I am using. The drawing units are in meters, `MEASUREMENT` is set to <1>.

If I export the dwg file to dxf and when I open the dxf file the scale tab displays in feets (see attached image 3.)

I can`t figure out where the bug is coming from. I also attached some images fyi.

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks!

I'm not sure what the issue is here since 1=1 but if you upload a drawing file you'll get answers.. I don't do meters, and assuming you start with a meters only template like UKIE should mean its a meters drawing.

i Rick,

thanks for your answer!

This is just a test drawing I uploaded with dxf file  - it is happening with all drawings that I try to export to dxf.

The drawing is in metric. I only use metric and haven`t had this issue before at all!

I exported the test.dwg to ACAD-test.dxf and when I opened the dxf file - the scale tab was in imperial.

Really sorry if this is confusing, i don`t know how else to explain what is happening.

I tried all commands in relation to drawing units (measurement, unitsdefsource...) and it doesn't seem to fix it.

I usually only open dxf to rename layers but I noticed the scale tab was displaying in imperial instead of metric (eg: 1:20, 1:100 etc.).

Thank you!

HI @apetrovski3BZYW,

Can you please try message 2 of this <thread link>?

I think it has something to do with your legacy units. Check also that your units and -dwgunits set to meter. I have a routine attached in the thread link that will fix all of that for you.

Cheers,

Jowenn

Hi @apetrovski3BZYW,

Please see this link regarding dwg to dxf issue <AKN Link>. I tried your drawing and it seems to be drawing related problem. I also use C3D 2019 for my testing.

1) I use Test.dwg and use DXFOUT and created Test.dxf. This have issue with -dwgunits = 2 (feet).

2) I created a new dwg click insert and use Test.dwg to insert and explode, save then use DXFOUT to create dxf and this show my -dwgunits = 6 (Meter)

3) With scale list problem, maybe you can just use a script to drag and drop then overwrite them to your standard.

4) See attached zip file to view animated gif and sample script.

5) Please try c3d_m_units.scr and RELOADSCALE.SCR

Lastly, also check which AUTOANNOSCALE you want to use 4 or -4. Mine I set to -4 as I don't want to auto attach anno but maybe you might want to auto attach it.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Jowenn

Hi Joewnn,

Thanks very much for your help and effort! Dragging the script c3d_m_units.scr worked and fixed the problem!

I still don`t understand how this happened in the first place as all my settings were correct and set to metric.
