Drawing only open when using RECOVER

I have a grading drawing that has multiple surfaces in it as well as a fairly basic corridor.

When opening the drawing normally, it freezes when loading one of the xrefs and regenerating model.

However, when using recover, the drawing opens almost instantly.

I have tried removing the xrefs, audit, purge, -purge. It still will only open when using recover.

My questions is, what exactly is recover doing that is enabling the drawing to open?

Try using RECOVERALL, this will recover the drawing and all of its xrefs.

Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately, I have already tried RECOVERALL, I should have included that in my post. My apologies.

RECOVERALL will eventually open the drawing just like RECOVER does. But even after a save of both the original drawing and it's xrefs, it still will not open without using the RECOVER command.

Open the problem drawing. Wblock your objects to a new drawing. Xref that.
