Dragged state does not survive insert, copy+paste, bind xref

Drawing A contains cogo points, whose labels have been moved into a dragged state.

If you do any of the following actions, the labels will reset back to the non-dragged state.

  • Copy and Paste drawing A into another drawing (if you paste as block, explode it)
  • Insert drawing A into another drawing and explode it.
  • Xref drawing A into another drawing and then Bind it, then explode the block.

This loss of the dragged state also happens for Parcel area labels. This is a problem because we might have multiple users each working on an area that contains Cogo points, then when they are all done, they need to combine these separate DWG files into one. "Pinning" the labels does not help.

On the other hand, alignment station labels, pipe network structure labels, pipe network pipe labels, and alignment station/offset labels RETAIN their dragged state. C3D is not consistent, unless I'm missing something here.

I don’t think you were missing anything here. This behavior is a limitation of how the software was designed. At this time there is no way to copy a point and paste it into another drawing without the label becoming reset.  This behavior has been logged as a wish list enhancement. I don't think thsi is ideal workaround but I hope it helps.

A) Copy the point, then paste the point as a block.

B) Xref the drawing with the desired points.

C) Explode point labels, then copy and paste them into new drawing.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I wish the Cogo Point guys would have followed the good example the Alignment guys set, and allowed copy+pasted point labels to remain in their dragged state.

Another "workaround" is to paste in a block of cogo points AS A BLOCK.
Then if edits are needed, do them using BEDIT.

Either insert the points as a block or try this:

I wrote that that a while ago for 2013. A newer version is included in my Civil Express tools.

We are running into this problem at the end of 2018. We have large survey projects where we need more than one person working with points at the same time. I need to be able to drag points around from one drawing and combine them with another drawing without losing dragged state. This should be considered a bug, not a wish list item. Please get this fixed. It is a huge headache.

@Anonymous - agreed. FWIW - The plug in mentioned in the post above did work at the time, but it doesn't appear to be available now.
