Drag/Drop Data Shortcut Changed DYNMODE System Variable

Hello all,

When I drag a data shortcut into a drawing to create a data reference, it changes my DYNMODE system variable. I like to have it set to 3 but it changes it to 0. Is this happening to anyone else or is it just me?

Thanks

2024. Apparently I have an update to install so I'll give that a go and let y'all know if that helps.

Still doing it after the update. Is it working correctly for others?

Wait, you use civil 3d WITH dynamic input enabled? Who are you?
🙂
Everyone thinks I'm nuts for using that...
Thanks

Just confirmed it here.  DYNMODE was set to -3 but changed to 0 after dragging in a corridor shortcut.

It's to learn you a lesson to not use DYNMODE... or something like that 🤣

When the dynamic input first came out I didn't like but I gave it a good try. I didn't search how to turn it off for at least 30 seconds. Then I got a job teaching AutoCAD and I had to learn how to use and what all it could do and now, I really like it.

I'm a command line junkie so when it first came out and I would type a command, it wouldn't show up at my command line and I would have to search my screen for where my cursor was when I started typing to see if I typed the command correctly (this was before autofill and autocorrect in AutoCAD). I hated it. When I learned that you could turn off the option for "Show command prompting and command input near the crosshairs" so my commands now always show up on the command line THE WAY GOD INTENDED, that's when I started to embrace dynamic input.

My recommendation to all you dynamic input haters (cause I know you old dogs are out there), turn it on again and turn that option off. Give it a try for a few months and if you still don't like it, turn it back off. And, really, that goes for anything new in AutoCAD/Civil 3D/whateverprogramyouregularlyuse. If there's a new way of doing things, try it for a month. If you don't give it an honest try, you won't know if  you like it or not. If you don't like it after that, go back to the old way of doing things. For example, when the new insert block palette came out, I tried it for a long time and I absolutely hate that f****r so I redefined the insert command to run the command CLASSICINSERT.

Ironically, most of what I consider must-have tools in Civil 3D is from also teaching AutoCAD Essentials! I don't mean to say I use everything the course considers essential, but I had lived as an ostrich with Civil 3D. If I didn't already use it, then I didn't need it cause I'm already awesome at my job. And now you know why continuing education is a requirement for professionals! 🙂
Thanks

Exactly! That's why I value my time when I was teaching the core AutoCAD classes. Since C3D is built on top of AutoCAD (and Map 3D), if you know those tools well, you'll be way better at using Civil 3D, even if you're not a "drafter".
