description key editing

Is anyone else disappointed with the description key editor in C3D?

I have been trying without success to find an easy way to edit description keys, copy and paste keys and do simple tasks with them.

The key editor in C3D is horrible, I would much prefer to be able to edit the keys in excel.

I am able to import and export the files using Sincpac-C3D but once they are exported you can't edit them or do anything to them so this is only good for backing up.

some things that I find annoying are -

If I have 2 description key files and want to take a few keys from one and put them in another, I can copy them but cant paste them into the second.

If I want to find a key quickly in a description key file I cant simply type the first letter of the key and expect the editor to jump to it, I have to manually scroll through all the keys until I find it.

I think Autodesk needs to improve this feature, anyone else?

I have updated this utility to work with Civil 3D 2019 - 2024

(July 2023) Note, I fixed the XML code so the plugin loads for 2023 and 2024. There is no change to the macro itself. Thanks to Jeff for noticing the error.

This is one of the best, no, this is the BEST tool to get your Description Keys setup.

This should be something that is included in C3D.

Can you provide some details. Did you try the updated ZIP with 2024 in the name posted last March?

I've tested and it appears to work with 2024 no problem.

I've updated it to not display a .NET error if the Survey Prefix Database is empty.

It should be good for another year.

Your question is a bit vague but I have repeated the basic instructions here:

The ZIP file contains an EXE file:

1. Run the EXE file once to install the macro
2. Start Civil 3D
   1. Type PDKSCU to run the macro
   2. There is a help button that displays an html page (MHT file) with instructions
3. Run the EXE again to uninstall

I  noticed the MHT file was not properly displaying one section so I've updated that here.

This Tool is AWESOME. Autodesk, take note, this should be incorporated into your Civil 3D. I have gone through many Standards changes and updates to layers and codes, not just for my company, but I do this for our clients as well. This will make creating/updating new Description Key sets way easier/faster.
