Defining property sets from a excel spreadsheet

I'm on a project whereby we need to set up some templates that require a large property sets table being created.

All the required information fields are defined in a spreadsheet.

Is it therefore possible to import the fields from the spreadsheet to automatically create the property set within Civil3D?

I believe you need to create the container "property sets" within C3D to enable the capture of the data.

In principal however, can a spreadsheet be used to define the Civil3D property sets?

My team works in highway design and all of the highway infrastructure and individual assets of the highway require the design models to contain asset data. Due to the large range of different assets involved in highway design it requires a large range of property set data to be attached to the different assets.

To set up this property set manually from scratch will take months of tedious work.

All the property sets are defined in a spreadsheet, which is issued out by the highway authority from time to time. So if I can feed in the all the criteria from the spreadsheet in to setting up the Civil3D property sets, then this will be a HUGE step forward.

I'm guessing the answer to the question above is "no", given the lack of replies 😉

Do we have anyone from AutoDesk that can reply to this?

Thanks for the reply. That video describes how to live link a spreadsheet with property set data entry fields within a drawing, but still requires the manual set up of the property set to get it working.

It is interesting and I may have a need for that type of link in another project, but I still have the problem of how to define a large list of property set criteria, (ie the manual setting up of each property set container with its individual data entry fields), when I've got a large list to (about 800, each with around 15 to 20 data entry fields) if doing that manually for every one.

As you can see that would involve me setting up 12000 to 16000 individual data entry fields within the full list of the property set.

A task that is going to take months of time.

I was really hoping there may be a Lisp or plug-in that may be able to read a spreadsheet and then define the property sets and their data entry fields within a dwg file by reading the source spreadsheet.

We are very familiar with Excel IO and somewhat familiar with AECC Property Sets.  And we share your desire for maximum productivity on the transfer.  If you could provide a sample data set (XLSx source and DWG target) we would be happy to begin work on this.  Only if the tool(s) satisfied you would you need to purchase our low-cost tool set.  Feel free to email dotson (at) dotsoft (dot) com.

Hello! I'm also looking for a solution to apply to projects that require several groups of custom properties. If anyone has any updates in this regard to share, it would be a big step forward. Thanks!
