hello everyone I have a research question what are the criteria for choosing a track map of a road

I may have a difference in terminology.  When laying out a road, we use design guidelines as set forth by the governing agency funding the roadway.

welcome to the forum

 

several years ago, I did an exhibit with all possible alignments to complete a loop around a city.

ended with 20+ possible solutions.

 

after looking at oil/gas wells, historical sites, archological sites, and environmental sensitive sites and swamps . .. 

that cut the number to 5 or 6.

 

then we looked at possible elevation changes and any bridge or drainage structures.

we ended up with 2 possilbe and then started looking at the property deeds. 

 

hope this helps.  and yes, the Owner of the road will have certain requirements; 

max speed, max super elevation, max - min slopes, min curve radii and then cost (for structures like bridges)

and the big item is : Engineer Construction Cost Estimate. (does it work within the proposed budget?)

ok, this is the basic ideal:

connect the loop 220 around Bosier City

RED - best "ideal" solution

BLACK - possible solutions

BLUE - best option for ease of construction and cost

 

problem with the RED, Barksdale AFB - no access, this place flies B-52 bombers an is a SAC base.

Blue - uses multiple existing roads, and bridges.

hello again.

 

the RED was the IDEAL solution that is it had the shortest route and looked to be an easy engineering design.

the problem is Barksdale AFB (air force base) which does not allow access for non-military personel.

So. the "best" solution was the blue, just involves street and traffic signal improvements and bridge improvements for a decaying structure.

 

the funny part - I did this in 1992-93, and the "LOOP" has never been designed, even after the proposed alilgnment was approved by the state.

(and yes, i have been doing this for a really long time . . . .. )
