Create profile from existing in a different profile view

Hi,
I created a alignment from the existing alignment. I have updated the profile view on the new alignment. How do I create a layout profile from the existing one in the new profile view?

Hi @dar.lombardi, I can think of two options without external applications:

1. Draw a profile view for your new alignment and superimposed the layout profile from the previous alignment. Mind the accuracy of the superimposed profile, I would up to 0.001. Then you can draw the new layout profile by tracing the superimposed geometry. You can draw the tangents first and the curves later.

2. Create a corridor with a mark point. Use any code for the mark point. Use the alignment and layout profile you have. Once you have the corridor. Select it, and in the ribbon, choose: "alignment from corridor." Follow the steps and make sure you check the option of creating a layout profile for the alignment. Assign names, and there you'll have an alignment and a layout profile resembling the geometry of your first objects. In this case, the frequency of the corridor is important. The higher the frequency, the more precise your output will be.

I hope this helps. Best regards!

Hi,

Also you can try create profile from file option in Civil 3D.

Make sure you enter correct details at start and end.

If you have vertical curve at start or end this method may be challenging, but still doable.
