Create COGO points from intersection of sample lines and a feature line

Is it possible to create COGO points in Civil 3D 2024 or 2025 from the intersection of a group of sample lines and a feature line?

Hi @j_ramirezK4B4N

What is the relation between your feature line and the alignment? (The alignment of the sample lines). Are they exactly parallel or a standard geometric pattern?

The feature line represents the position of the power line that runs approximately parallel to the alignment.

Hi @j_ramirezK4B4N

Understood

What about the elevations of the points?

Do you need the elevations from the feature line or from Alignment Profile? (with a specified slope)

I'm using the elevation of the existing ground as the elevation for my feature line. I have already created section views showing the power line offset at each station.
Now, I need to create COGO points to generate a report that shows all intersection point offsets where my sample lines cross the power line.

... create COGO points ... the intersection of ... sample lines and a feature line?

If you were to consider third party add-ons and your sample lines are perpendicular to the alignment (most likely), DotSoft's C3DTools contains an Alignment Sample Figures tool that lets you select multiple named objects (like FeatureLines) and reports the station & offset at a specified interval.  Once the report reflects the desired information, a single click can generate CogoPoints at all the intersections.

Hi @j_ramirezK4B4N

I developed a graph in Dynamo (attached dynamo file).

This graph (workflow) requires from the user to choose the alignment with the sample lines from a dropdown list and select the feature line from the model (drawing).

The workflow creates cogo points of the intersection of the feature line with every sample line and collect the elevations of the cogo points to match with the elevations of the feature line.

I tested and it works fine (see the attachments), but because its just a graph (i am not programmer) its not dubuggable, so if you try it, do it in a copy of your dwg file.

You may need to install one or two packages (they are free) in Dynamo and modify your default settings, but its very very simple.

Let me know if your try was successful

I really appreciate your help, @nkiakas

I manage to install the Arkance Systems package but there are still 4 nodes that I don't have the libraries installed.

What are the packages names?

What version of C3D do you use?

Or can you share your file?

Hi @j_ramirezK4B4N

Also try to install two more packages

package Camber and package civil3dtoolkit

Thanks for sharing your Dynamo graph and the detailed workflow! It sounds like a well-thought-out solution for creating COGO points at feature line intersections with sample lines—really useful for this kind of task. CFAHome

I appreciate the heads-up about testing it on a copy of the DWG file and the package requirements. I’ll give it a try and let you know how it works for me.

Thanks again for contributing to the community, and I’ll keep you posted on my results!

I tried in Civil 3D 2024 and 2025. Still have errors after installing the Arkance Systems, Camber, and Civil3DToolKit packages. I am attaching the file here.

Hi,

Even though you do not have a direct method, you can follow this procedure.

Set the corridor frequency interval to the sample line interval.

Extract the feature line from corridor and remove any dynamic link to corridor

explode the feature line to make it a 3d polyline

Then use create points on vertices option in civil 3d point creation

You will have vertices on the sample line locations and get points on them

Hi @j_ramirezK4B4N

Finally i found the time and the proper nodes to make the same graph in downgraded version of Dynamo.

The attached works perfect in C3D 2024.1.6

Please try it and let me know the results.

hi @Jeew-m, another workaround is by adding MarkPoint to  the assembly and from Toolbox tab corridor points table
