Create a profile with .shp files.

Hi,

I need to make a lot of profiles but without an excisting surface. The only information i get is a zipped shapefile of where the profile is. So i get the points i need for the profile but no surface or anything around it.

Is it possible to create a flat surface in civil 3d so i can use that as a reference for the profile? And will this still give me an accurate height in the databands?

Without seeing the data I'm guessing. First you'll need an Alignment. Then you need to create an ASCII file with the format Station, Elevation, (Curve Length if needed). You can then import the file to create a Profile. See:

If the points you have imported from the SHP file have a real world elevation. You could draw a Featureline between the points, offset the FL by a couple of feet and use those Featurelines to create a Surface to run you Profile from.

Just draw a closed polyline around your entire area.  Give it an elevation then make a new surface and select this as your object.
