CRD. FILE

I received a crd.file from a surveyor and I need to create a surface from the data. How did I convert to civil 3d? I also received the dwg.file also but the points are blocks and I can't convert the blocks to autocad points?

Answer:

CRD files are Misc Files primarily associated with Windows Cardfile.

CRD files are also associated with ColdRED Script File, Guitar Chord File, Spanish Whiz Card Game Sound File (GB Blanchard) and FileViewPro.

Additional types of files may also be using the CRD file extension. If you are aware of any other file formats using the CRD file extension, please contact us so that we can update our information accordingly.

How To Open Your CRD File:

The fastest and easiest way to open your CRD file is to double-click it. This allows the intelligence of Windows to decide the correct software application to open your CRD file.

In the case that your CRD file doesn't open, it is highly likely that you do not have the correct software application installed on your PC to view or edit CRD file extensions.

If your PC opens the CRD file, but it's the wrong application, you'll need to change your Windows registry file association settings. In other words, Windows is associating CRD file extensions with the wrong software program.

We highly recommend scanning your Windows registry for invalid file associations and other related registry issues.

How big is the CRD file? Try to open it with excel, notepad or notepad++. Hopefully there is a header row that will explain to you what the columns are. You could also use the data extraction tool to get an XYZ + description list of the insertion points of your blocks which would allow you to import the points into a new drawing.

When we send a survey out to a client and they don't know how it works, we usually get phone calls. maybe you should try to call and ask if the can send you something in a format that you understand.

I always get a text file and a CSV file from my surveyor. The text file is all you need... Ask them to send you a text file and it will import easily

NH,

Please post the drawing and crd file. If the crd file won't attach, zip it with the drawing.

Hey Erik,

Civil 3D COGO Points are blocks. A special kind of block, but a block nonetheless. And COGO Points can be created from lots of different AutoCAD Objects, like blocks, text objects, etc...

NH,

Glad you got it sorted out. It would be nice if you would post the drawing with the blocks. I'm as interested in it as Erik is.

If this is a crd file from a surveyor. Open survey link from the pull down under poits and then open the file. It should show you a listing of points in PNEZD format. Select convert and convert the file to ASCII.

nonbeard13: Unfortunately Google is a search algorithm (not human) and still has a long way to go, as it's primary results are sometimes useless.

The CRD file is most likely a Carlson Coordinate File.  It is binary and comes in a numeric or alphanumeric point variant.  It could also be an old C&G CRD file, also binary but not of the same makeup.

Carlson provides a free Carlson Connect add-on for Civil3D but it doesn't look like it's been updated since Civil3D 2015.

DotSoft produces a C3D Points add-on that will import and export CRD files.
