Converting ESRI ascii DEM to CSV for import into Revit

Hi,

I am trying to find the best way to convert an environment agency DEM .asc file into a CSV format for import into Revit. Is there a way to do this using Civil 3D or any other autodesk products?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you can create a new surface and add the ASC file as a DEM definition. once the surface is built, from the report toolbox, use Surface Points to CSV report.

I have just tried the method you mentioned but I get an error "Failed to execute 'surface points to csv'" any idea why this might be?

There have been some recent threads discussing the reports not working in some instances, for example:
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-civil-3d-general/civil-3d-2016-transportation-extension-issue/...

it appears that hard coding the report path as mentioned in the thread above has fixed the problem. Give that a try, I do not have access to C3D at the moment to run the surface CSV report, but has always worked for me in the past.

*Edit: worst case, after you create the tin surface from asc file, set it to a style to display only the surface points, then extract those points. then you can extract the xyz data from the points.
