Converting classificaiton in Recap to layers/Objects in AutoCAD Civil 3D

Hello

Im new to working with Recap. I had a file and ReCAP already did a classification for the drawing (water, buildings, vegetation, etc...)

How to convert these point clouds into real objects in AutoCAD? For example, I want to have the buildings as real 3D buildings like in architecture, the trees as real trees object, as in Architectural files. Is there a way to do this? I saw many videos that had to convert these classifications manual (which is not the best thing), is there an automatic way of doing it, specially that ReCAP and AutoCAD are the same family??

Thanks a lot

Morning

I am not an expert with Recap but have done some work and some playing around with it. I believe Classification is useful in Recap - it can work somewhat the same in C3D. When the point cloud is selected the ribbon is changed and the scan colors can be changed to the "classification" setting. No - it isn't quite the same as a layer, but you can see the different types.

Not sure if this helps - just a thought.

Hi Sarah,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
Tim's idea is pretty cool. I haven't used Infraworks much, but that looks like a way to go.
Most Civil 3D'ers want to eliminate non-ground points to be able to design a surface. What's the end result of what you want?

This is a neat idea, I am going to give this a try.

Thanks

I will ry Tim's solution. I want to classifiy them into different layers on Autocad (after the classification of Recap) to use these layers as obstacles that cannot be accessed for civil purposes (mostly vehicles, cannot drive into trees, buildings , etc....).

I will try Tim's idea , hopefully it works
