I have just spent half a day trying to crop a surface to a new file. My problem is the contours are created at the wrong scale every time. I am using the same style for the cropped surface that is used in the source surface (Contours 2'and 10' Design). I tried creating the new surface in an existing file with the same units and template and I still get contours that are not to scale (they appear to be 10x - 12x more dense than they should). Screen grabs of the source and cropped surface areas are attached.
Any assistance with this is greatly appreciated!
I confirmed the contours in the cropped surface are being created at 12x density (inches = feet) by creating a new style with minor intervals at 24' and major intervals at 120'. That produces contour lines identical to the source surface using style of 2' and 10'.
BD,
Any chance your Surface Style got changed to "Exaggerate Elevation"?

Rather than cropping, I usually extract triangles and use only those I need to create a new surface. I have just found it easier.
I would check DDUNITS in both drawings as well as the Drawing Settings in Tool Space.
Hope that helps,
This is one of those cases in which we will need a copy of your source drawing as well as the resulting cropped surface drawing.
Also what version of C3D (including SP#) are you using?

It seems that your original drawing was not created by feet as units. Most likely it was created by a template using inches given the discrepancy of 12. See if you can use AECDWGSETUP and set the units to feet there. Also if asked perform scaling and then you should be able to crop or export to LandXML.
I hope this helps.
