Command Line

It's really a shame that for a few years now, I have to physically dock my command line every time I open the software. Why can't this be fixed? It used to work.

I agree with @cbenner on saving your workspace.  I've been using my commandline docked for years without any issues.  I tried the floating command line, but that one release that had the bug that shortened it every time you opened the software convinced me to leave it docked full width.

No issues at all here if you are talking about AutoCAD (going back many versions): is this a multi-monitor setup?
Not manually saving workspaces?
Not utilizing LOCKUI?
Have a startup resetting everything for you?

Maybe you have to change WSAUTOSAVE system variable?

Hi,

"Automatically save workspace" is a no-go for me.
Reason ... if you have issues you overwrite a good workspace with the errors.

I only save my workspace manually to make sure it's a valid state.

I set my workspace up on day one save it and never touch it again until the next year's release.  I wish I could migrate it to the next year's release, but C3D doesnt support migration.  Luckily it is pretty minimal.  Dock the command line and have certain palettes docked and auto hidden.

Todd:

If you are still in need of a fix.

After trying for several weeks to get the command line to stay put, I finally used this method:

https://resources.imaginit.com/autocad/command-line-will-not-stay-docked

It is the second article on this page.

It has been working "perfectly" for several weeks.

I was running into a similar problem after installing C3D 2022.  Command line would not stay docked.  Checked WS settings - fine.  Checked, restored, reimported profile - still no solution.  I got to thinking - I still had C3D 2018 installed when I installed 2022.  After reading Ryan Wunderlich's article, I went to appdata/roaming/autodesk and there were remnants from 2018 that had not been deleted from uninstall.  I renamed any folder older than my new install data (rather than delete) and reran C3D.  Some folders were recreated after firing up and the command line has stayed put.  I would recommend that an uninstall and clean up is done before installing or that you search for remnants of the old install and try the method that succeeded for me.

Ok... tried something a little different.  Wunderlich's article says to replace the text in your appdata.  I'm calling to a specific profile on our server, which I opened in Notepad.  I searched for "CommandLineControl", which is nearly at the bottom and it doesn't have the text that he specifiies.

So, I replaced it all with his text and saved the .arg file.  Reopened C3D and the command line is docked at the bottom.  Close, reopen, still good, Check the .arg file and text is still there!

If you don't hear from me again, assume that this solution continues to work!

It's really a shame we have to do all of this just because Autodesk refuses to fix this. SMH
