COGO Points Defaults Properties

Hello,

I’m struggling with a specific setting regarding COGO Point creation. Every time I create a new point, Civil 3D automatically assigns a specific Label Style to it (as seen in the Properties Palette), instead of leaving it as <default>. I believe this is a template issue (I'm using my company template instead of Autodesk's).

I want my points to be created with the Label Style set to <default> so that their visibility and appearance are controlled strictly by the Point Group settings, rather than having a hardcoded style at the individual object level.

What I have checked so far:

  • Edit Command Settings (CreatePoints): I’ve looked into the Default Styles section.
  • Description Key Sets: (I'm not using them).

My Goal:
When I select a newly created point and look at the Properties Palette, I want the "Point Label Style" field to say <default> (Image 1) instead of the template style (Image 2).

Does anyone know which specific setting in the "Settings" tab or which system variable controls this behavior during the point creation process?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I dont think that is possible.  I'd have to do some testing, but I believe that <default> means the style that is dictated by the CreatePoints Command settings.  Technically the Point Group Style isnt the default style, its a style that is applied after a point has been placed in the drawing and the point group is updated.   I've always used description keys to set my points and point styles, but even then, it doesnt show <default> it shows the style assigned in the description key.

@juaR42SN

You need at least one existing cogo point. If you don't have an existing point you'll need to insert a dummy point to get started.

Go to all points, then try this:

You might try setting Disable Description Keys to True in the Create Point Command settings.

It's been so long since I set this up. I'm not sure I remember correctly. But a Google search implies it might help.

@juaR42SN Use the attached template in the future if you need to make changes again. Go to Toolspace → Settings → Point → Commands → Create Points → Edit Command Settings → Default Styles, and change any styles as required for the project.

Hi, thanks for your answer! Unfortunatelly, I can't download that template on my work laptop (firewall issues).

I've tried the edit command settings already and sadly it didn't work. I also have my description keys disabled.

I've recorded my screen to show you what I'm dealing with.

If I select the points, and go to the properties, I can change the point and label styles to <default> and then the point group Styles work! That fixes the issue, but I have to do it every time I import/make new points. I think the styles are being overriden, but I can't find where it's coming from.

This is how my template looks:

And this is how Autodesk's metric template looks:

I suspect there might be something else going on.

Thanks for the help!

While creating a new COGO point, it is possible to set COGO with a default style.

Step 1.

pcmanojkumar_0-1776842079707.png

Go to point settings in the tool space and right-click on the feature level settings of the point and set to the following.

DEFULT STYLES-> POINT Style – select <none>

DEFULT STYLES-> Point label Style – select <none>

Clear any override and child override columns.

After exiting the dialog, go to Prospector Point Groups and prioritize the "_all Points Group" first and take the default style properties of the _all Points Group. Assign any styles that you like to the point and label, but make sure that no overrides are selected. (if so clear the selection) *this is a very important step

Now you can create a manul point before Disable Description keys and check in defualt styles both must be <none>.

Now your GOGO points are created with the default styles set in the _all Points group properties.
