hi
can you tell me how can I estimate cut fill in civil 3D with some specified elevation difference to a fixed length.
I know there is a option volume dashboard by this option we can compare two surface and estimate, but I have some points by this point we can create a surface but for every 21m i want 600mm down elevation then how can i compare and generate the surface?
Can you provide some type of plan view sketch of what you are trying to calculate? (I am pretty sure that I am misunderstanding your questions, because my answer would be "length X width X depth".)
Ya offcourse , I am attaching a image you can see there are some levels now i want to estimat cut and fill if elevation difference is more than 600mm to every 1st and last file in a table.
That helps, although I am not understanding the "...more than 600mm to every 1st and last file in a table" part.
If you have two surfaces, one being completely below the other, and only want to consider the volume where the difference is greater than 600mm, you could make a new surface, paste in one of the originals and raise or lower it by 600mm. Then do a volume surface on the other original and this 'adjusted surface'.
If you have a grid scenario (which your image seems to imply), where both elevation sets have matching X,Y values, it may be better to in Excel. For each X,Y, if the elevation difference is more than 600mm, include that square in the volume calculation.
Am I still too far off of your circumstances to be helpful?
ok no problem , I am attaching a dwg file. you can see that there are one z value for each pile.
now what i have to do to estimate cut fill .
I have to follow some conditions:
1. In each table there are 8 piles if z value of first to last pile and last pile of one table to first pile to another table is more than 600mm either I have to cut or fill.
so tell me the process how can i generate another surface or there is another method to find out cut and fill or by excel.
I want to know how can generate a section and solid surface. actually i am doing but its not showing properly.
I am not more familiar with civil 3D
so please attached snapshot of the process.
thanks
I apologize, I do not understand what you are trying to accomplish, so cannot offer you any more detailed advice. I am using Civil 3D 2016, so I cannot see your surfaces to look at them, which might help me understand.
ok no problem , I am attaching a dwg file if you see you can understand. I have taken all elevation level from civil 3D after creating the surface from contour and after that all the values exported in cad to manage some standards .so you have AUTOCAD FILE .you can see that there are one elevation value for each pile.
now what I have to estimate cut and fill .
I have to follow some conditions:
1. In each table there are 8 piles if elevation difference of first to last pile is greater than 470mm then i have to either cut or fill to maintain the differance within 470mm.
2.Now 2nd thing is I have to maintain 25mm elevation difference within last file of one table to the first pile of next table, for that either I have to cut or fill.
I am doing manually so it is taking too much time,so tell me the process how can I generate another surface or there is another method to find out cut and fill or by excel.

I apologize for the delay in replying to you. The information and drawing from your last post was very helpful for me to understand what you are dealing with. This is a pretty interesting problem, which I do not think Civil 3D is well suited to handle (Do not rule it out, this is pretty far away from anything I've tried to do with it.)
I think I would try to analyze the data in Excel:
If the above works to provide the depth answers, I wouldn't think it would be much of a task to get the data back into Civil 3D (X,Y,Z data) for surface creation, sections, etc.
I cannot promise you any results, but if I have the time this weekend, I'll try putting something together to actually do what I think you are looking for. This is a really interesting exercise.
OTHER THOUGHTS COMING TO MIND AS I WRITE THIS:
If you are only comparing the first point to the last point in each table, and their distances are consistent, you could do this visually with a slope analysis in Civil 3D, if your surface only contained the first and last point for each table. Just calculate the slope generated by the 470 elevation change and set one slope analysis range that is that value or higher. You could also check the table to table elevation change the same way. Again, this would only give you a visual of where the values are 'out of range', it would not be a complete solution.
If I get the time to play with and come up with anything that appears to be promising, I will repost.
thank you so much sir for your response, but if there any proper solution please give me snap shot of the whole process. Its better for me.
ya I can check one value to the last value of a table, but it is taking too much time, another thing is what you will face the problem, when you will check first pile and last pile it may be possible that the value is within 470mm but value of last pile of table one and first pile of table the next table is greater than 25mm then we have to either cut or fill due to that reason the valeu within the table is not satisfied ,since we have to maintain two conditions in each row for all table.
now some times values are increasing and after from next pile it is decreasing so how to set the formula or any condition by which we can estimate what we have to do either cutt or fill.since when we check manually we can understand what we have to do, either cut or fill , we are deciding on the basis of the filling or cutting volume, we are the taking lowest one.
Take a look at this spreadsheet if you have a chance. I would start with analyzing the data in a way similar to this. When I look at the data this way, I am left with many more questions about your circumstances, so it is had for me to determine the best realistic way to proceed.
I hope you are familiar with table filters in Excel. The Vol To Fix To End Pile column is a simple calculation, being applied to any "First Pile row", that takes half of the elevation difference times the Table Area, similar to an average end area calculation. Note that this is NOT an accurate volume calculation, but may be a very useful look at what you have.
There are many ways you could proceed here. From this table, you could derive many X,Y,Z sets that could be imported back into Civil 3D for surface generation and analysis/comparison. I am going to play around with this a little more, following this idea of building X,Y,Z data in this Excel file for the purpose of generating surfaces in Civil 3D. I plan to repost later today. It is raining here, looks like it will be all day, so I have some free time available. 😉
The attached PDF shows a surface built from the attached CSV, built from data in the above spreadsheet file. This analysis shows the difference in elevation beyond the 0.47 at each table's first pile. To build the surface:
A volume estimate could actually be created from this. If visually, this is an accurate portrayal of your circumstances, you have the areas and depths required to bring your surface within the required tolerances. No consideration for realistic earth moving on your site has been considered, nor have I looked at any of this data in any detail to make sure I have not made mistakes with the formulas in Excel, so this not the final answer.
Please note: It is very easy to make expensive mistakes computing volumes. I am in no way attempting to answer the actual volume questions you have, because there are way too many factors that I have no way of being aware of. I also did not look at the 'first pile vs. previous table last pile' elevations at all. This is not intended to be a complete analysis, only an explanation of the methods I would likely use, given my understanding of the situation you've described. I hate to sound like an attorney, but I do want to be extremely clear what context I am posting this reply in.
I hope you find this helpful, and if I can clarify anything further, I would be happy to try doing so.
We found some discrepancy in contour levels in topography contour files. As highlighted in attached image levels are not matching and the Grid file is sent as a data shortcut (as shown in image below). I am also attaching dwg file.can you please tell me why actual contour level is not matching with the level existing.
Levels not matching in Contour File.
I am not getting any response if any one can suggest something, its better.
As I already mention everything in my previous post ,Pl metion the attach the snaps.
What I would do is make a copy of the block that contains the elevations. Explode the block, move the text to the column position. If you need a boot to the proposed surface datum move the text up or down as needed. Use the text to create a surface. You'll now have 2 surfaces to compare. Depending on what cerates the break between the two groups of elevation text. You may want to create 2 proposed surfaces to compare to the existing.
I'm not saying this is the 'Proper" way to do it. There's most often at least 3 ways to do something. This is just how I would handle this if I were given this to do.

I am getting the spot elevation of indivisual pile on a created surface and that surface is created by the text. Now I want to create the another surface for that I have to maintain some condition. This is a condition I have to be maintain
1.First pile elevation to last pile elevation difference of a table is less than or equal to 470mm.
I am getting all the spot elevation from created surface, and if after exploding I will generate the surface, then surface will be same, and for that there is no cut filling.
If we want to generate the surface and estimate the cutting filling for that I have to maintain the condition and change the level to maintain the conditon. wherever is required.so for that it will take more time.
please suggest how can I do ?
and what are the process?
I want to take levels of all pile. In each table there are 8 piles and each tables are not separated by equal distance , so distance b/w piles is also very.
We cant use spot elevation on grid command since there is not equal distance b/w piles. There is any other option by which we can take all piles spot elevation by one selection or any short process.I am attaching a pdf by you can understand easily.
kindly suggest me.
