CIVIL 3D SURFACE CREATION BUG

Dear Civil 3D users,

I have truble with sufrace creation for a short longitudinal problem that I am currently working on.

I have imported points, create an alignment from the same and up to there everything is okay.

When I create the surface and define it by adding points, the surface appears to jump at some point...and get to some other points a few meters away.

This results in a profile that has gaps...kindly find attached a simplified version of my problem.

Please help me find how to solve this

Regards,

Fabrice

In Surface Properties, on the Definition tab, expand Build and Change "Use Maximum triangle length" to yes and enter a "Maximum triangle length" of something appropriate like 100m. Also for a longitudinal surface. You'll bet better results if you create a Featureline along the alignment using the point elevations and offset that a small amount left and right. Use those Featurelines as breaklines.

You can also Create a Profile from a point file.

Dear Friend,

It seems like for some reason some points are not taken to create the surface.

I see that you have your points in an increment order.

So you can follow this method.

Connect the points using a 3d polyline.

Then project it to your profile view.

If you need to convert it to a profile you can use this.

Did you create parallel Featurelines? You'll never get a Surface made from one line. Create a Featureline along the alignment using points for grade, Offset the Featureline 0.5m on either side, create a Surface from those Featurelines.

Dear @BushWBushW, and @AllenJessup

Many thanks for your email, I did not make it to create the feature lines. So, I decided to create points which are close to where I had the jumps. These points have different coordinates(but not very far from the known ones) but same levels as their closest points. i assumed this would help the software make a reasonable interpolation and it worked.

Best regards,

Fabrice

Dear @BushW,

I have a question on a different subject: how do I place types of pipes and different fittings such as valves, bends tees on my network? and Does civil 3D 2015 has all material catalogs?

Thanks in advance,

Best regards,

Fabrice
