Civil 3D points compared to feature line

I have a query.....

We have a 3D design given and i have completed a small survey along the extents of a feature line. These have been marked out, however I am wanting to create a comparison that can be sent out over email.

Is there a way i can compare the heights of the feature line to the heights of the points i have surveyed?

Thanks in advance 🙂

The way I might do that (never actually done it) is to create two Surfaces. One from the Featureliness and one from the points. Use those two Surface to create a Volume Surface

Then set points on top of your original points and have them take their elevation from the Volume Surface. Export those points to a TXT or CSV file and you'll have a file with the differences shown as the elevation.

This appears to of worked but it has only provided the TXT/CSV file. With the linear aspect of my job (Highways) i dont have reference for the points used so to a manager or QS it will be useless. Is there a way to show this on a points labels maybe?

There seem to be a couple of methods mentioned in THIS thread.

There is a Dynamo file posted HERE that's supposed to add the Sta. - Off. to the points.

Use Project Explorer to compare a Point Group to a Feature Line.

Hi @tcorey

This sounds interested (by using the project explorer).

Can you give more details?

Thanks you

Hi,

If you have one feature line (Or a few),

Create points on your feature line. (Create points --> Misc --> Automatic)

Export the points to csv

Compare with what you already have.

I assume coordinates are same in both cases.

I don't believe Project Explorer can compare to a point group - if it can I would love to know how, maybe with Object Sets?  When I have a feature line selected in PE Compare to: doesn't include point groups.

You can create a surface out of your points and easily compare the feature line to that.
