Civil 3D IFC exports exports all layers

Hi all,

does anyone know how to stop Civil 3D to not export all layers in the IFC?

i have tried turning off and freezing the layers, still the export has those unwanted layers

The file that I'm working on has only 3D Solids, not Alignments, COGO , corridors or other type of native C3D elements only Solids with some custom property Sets that i need to Export.

Regards,

Alex

Hi @sweapon

What do you mean by "Exporting all layers"?

Based on my understanding IFCEXPORT exports only layers that are associated with the exported objects (in your case 3D Solids). If solids are placed on the particular layers, then these layers will be written into IFC file.

You can check on this by opening IFC file in Notepad++ and search for IFCPRESENTATIONLAYERWITHSTYLE entry.
IFCPRESENTATIONLAYERWITHSTYLE entry in IFC file schema is responsible for handling object layers.

If there are no objects exported on that particular layer, then the layer shouldn't be present in the IFC file.

Could you please tell me where do you see all the layers exported? Do you see these in any viewer e.g. Navis works?

Is it possible to provide any sample dwg file and exported IFC?

Thanks,
Wojtek

Hi @sweapon

Thanks for the clarification.

So you have several 3D Solids on different layers, but you want to IFCEXPORT only specific ones.

I've tried with Freezing/Locking/Turning off layers and got the same results as you did. However, I was able to export chosen objects when I isolate them instead.
Please see:
IFC Export of separated 3D Solids in Civil 3D

Please, let me know if you find this suggestion helpful.
If you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to ask. Thank you.

Thanks,
Wojtek
